BE Festival 2011

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Yesterday we had the folk from BE Festival @ A E Harris sizing things up for this year’s festivities. Following last year’s triumph one of their questions was “how do we squeeze more audience in?”. Another request was that we tell people that they are now open for submissions from anyone wanting to perform at the festival. Last year folk came from across Europe to perform but there wasn’t anyone from down the road. It would be great to see some local talent in the line-up this year. Here are details of how to apply.

BE more in

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

It’s probably getting tedious to read about but the BE Festival is shaping up to be really exciting here. The first two companies have just finished their tech set up, one delayed a bit getting out of Catalonia by industrial action. There’s by far the biggest lighting rig we’ve had in the venue set up. The bar is more glamorous and elaborately stocked than we had ever envisaged. Blanch and Shock are back and have had ten new sockets installed in order to power the amount of kitchen kit they’ve hired for all the festival participants (the food is going to be cheap and it’s going to be lovely and it’s served in the interval between shows). There are more sofas than ever. There are decks and vinyl.

It is shaping up to be the kind of festival we have always been in love with whilst performing abroad and always moaned on about not finding over here. BE here, honestly do come and tell everyone else to come as well. There are so many acts there’s bound to be something that grabs you, even if there isn’t the atmosphere will be so brilliant that won’t matter anyway. BE here.

I can rant on banging the drum like this because it’s not our thing.

Birmingham European BE Festival

Friday, March 19th, 2010

This summer @ A E Harris is to host the BE Festival.

Fifteen companies from across Europe will come together with local audiences for an exchange of live performances, workshops, discussions, celebratory partying and Etc. Each company will present a 30 minute long performance competing for a £1500 prize and the opportunity to present a full length version of the piece at MAC in 2011.

“How does my company get in on this?” you may be asking. The answer is simple. Visit the BE website, download an application form and get on with it. Good Luck. For everyone else, put the dates in your diary and make sure you are around @ A E Harris for a bit of European flavour.
