The Holocaust Museum in Budapest is just round the corner from Trafó, our host's excellent venue. Attached to a reconstructed synagogue, it is a stunning memorial to the terrible sequence of events which resulted in the decimation of the Jewish population of Hungary. In 1941 the Hungarian Jews numbered 725,007 - including many who had fled neighbouring countries, believing it to be a haven despite collaboration with Hitler. By 1946 there were 143,624 remaining.
