Presented as part of the CCCB's NOW Project
CCCB describe Now as
"... a project focussing on the scientific, technological, artistic, social and spiritual transformations that are taking place at the start of the 21st Century."
Of All The People was presented alongside a range of documentaries and talks around the themes of Ecology, Science and Technology, New Activism, Art, Emerging Culture and Immigration. In many ways Of All The People provided an ideal anchor point for the other activities, and was able to reflect on many of the areas looked at in wider festival. The themes gave us quite a tight focus for the initial layout and encouraged us to hunt out new stories to include in the show. They also helped us to refocus stories and statistics that have appeared in many previous versions. For example, statistics about protests provided an interesting way for us to look at environmental issues as many other available figures are based on ideas of what might happen in the future, and so are not really useable. And by including statistics about science and research amidst the health statistics you are able to tell a more complex story about the people involved in global health issues.
The show was located in the foyer area of the CCCB which gave us a very prominent position and allowed us to be a constant presence behind the other events. This location also helped us to have very exciting audience numbers with around 5000 people visiting the show over just 3 and a half days. We also received some very valuable regional and national press coverage. Hopefully our relationship with CCCB will be one that will continue in the future.
