Conde Duque, Madrid 2018
12 - 29 September 2018
Our friends Isla Aguilar and Miguel Oyarzun, the founders of Birmingham's European performance festival BE Festival approached us in the summer to discuss taking Of All The People In All The World to Madrid. They had just taken over the artistic directorship of Conde Duque, a huge venue in Madrid and were planning a very exciting programme of work including residencies, workshops and performances. We were very happy to be able to be able to be part of their opening season.
Conde Duque cultural centre is a beautiful building which was constructed in the eighteenth century as barracks and stables for the Spanish Royal Guard. It was reborn as an arts venue in 1983 and today houses libraries, galleries, music rooms, a cinema and various performance spaces. It's so vast we didn't get to see it all.
We were blessed with a beautiful setting for the show - the old stables, with beautiful brick arches and vaulted ceilings. We were also very lucky to work with some amazing local people who brought various skills and knowledge to the show and made a fantastic contribution to our visit.
