Truro Cathedral
Truro, U.K.
5 - 9 February 2008

For our second week in Cornwall we moved from the post industrial space of The Exchange to the Victorian gothic splendour of Truro Cathedral. In cathedrals the rice has a lot of visual treats to compete with and this combined with its presence in previously well used and familiar walkways can lead to several feet meeting rice incidents. Truro was no exception with daily trips through rice piles and much sweeping up. But the show was very warmly greeted here by staff and visitors alike and viewed by a very wide cross section of the community in large numbers. Being in such a venue means that the show is often visited by people who are in the building for other reasons. This can lead to some interesting questions but once people have been reassured about its presence and meaning, they are almost always very positive. It is always pleasing when the show takes people by surprise or when you can see that people are surprised by their own reactions to it.

We had a high turnover of statistics here due to the frequent accidents and a large number of repeat visitors, keen to see how the show had changed. Truro might also win the prize for the fastest get out ever, with help from Kneehigh and Cornwall based family and friends bringing it in at around 45 minutes.
