We discussed how the school engages
with the community that it is part of and agreed that
the relationship should be symbiotic. This theme cropped
up across the Sustainable Schools, some ideas arising
from it can be found here.
One idea was that the new school should have a swimming
pool that is open to the community and helps people
exercise. The pool would have a crèche and swimming
for very young children. Professional instructors would
help people who are just learning or afraid of water.
There will be times for adult and child only swimming
room. Changing rooms will separate adults and children
as well as boys and girls. If the pool earns a profit
this money could be fed back into the school.
Rather than moving into temporary classrooms whilst
the school is rebuilt students should go out into the
community to learn and get work experience.
